Introduction
I was the lead designer on a small team that developed the visual identity for the UW Bothell 2019 Interactive Media Design Capstone Exhibition. Over several group sessions, we refined our work into a cohesive vision; delve: explore design tangibly.
Graphic
The ideation behind delve stemed from the need to collectively represent the work of each team, and their “deep-dives” into respective and unique areas of exploration. The delve “hourglass” logo is a subtle depiction of this in that it reveals a visual process of discovery as your eyes move through the design.
Type
The intention behind delve is also supported by pairing the hourglass with OCR-A, a font designed to be recognized and read by both computers and humans; a benchmark of early human-computer interaction, as well as a visual metaphor for the Interactive Media Design program at UW Bothell.
Color
The palette is also a reflection of what it can mean to dive into the unknown. Within the context of the poster, the fading blue gradient calls upon the imagery of oceans and how the natural light dissipates as you descend deeper and deeper; while the white of the logo is representative of our commitment to light-up and explore the darkest of spaces.
